A TOOWOOMBA Christian group has sought to clarify its stance over the "curing" of homosexuals.

Triumphant Ministries says it is not brainwashing homosexuals in a bid to "cure them" of being gay.

Media reports have been widely published regarding "pray away the gay" services are operating in Queensland and Christian organisations promising to cure "unwanted same-sex attraction" .

A Toowoomba-based organisation called Triumphant Ministries claims to restore those who have the "homosexual spirit", reports say.

The ministry's founder and self-proclaimed "ex-homosexual" Kathleen Malligan specialises in healing people with "sexual brokenness".

Ms Malligan wrote on her website."I write to give knowledge of the darkness linked to same-sex attraction."

Triumphant Ministries hit back at the reports.

"Once again the media are writing about Triumphant Ministries Toowoomba and another ex-homosexual ministry Liberty Inc.... misunderstanding those who fight the good fight and who want to embrace a Christ life than a homosexual life," a statement read.

"Triumphant Ministries Toowoomba respects the freedom and choices of these peoples in the earth and does not advocate 'cure' for all.

"Given the freedom of opinion and expression and the freedom of thought, conscience and religion in Australia I write books and teachings and to add I do no face to face counselling. The ministry site embraces my calling, my story, my journey my biblical understanding on the subject.

"... if you think ex-homosexual ministries or the church can or do successfully brainwash gays, lesbians or transsexuals you cannot brainwash anyone into thinking they are straight, for a man persuaded against his own mind is still of the same opinion, so he or she will just lie like some I know did or return back to their former ways."

Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays national spokeswoman Shelley Argent reportedly said the practice of curing homosexuals was "extremely dangerous".
