ACTOR Ryan Moloney is a household name on Neighbours.

This week he celebrates 20 years on air as Jarrod "Toadfish" Rebecchi in the long-running soapie.

From high school student to disc jockey and lawyer, Toadie is a Ramsay Street mainstay.

Q: How are you feeling as you reflect on two decades at Ramsay Street?

A: Really old! And tired of getting blown up and shot at and paralysed and married and divorced! It feels like I face a life and death situation on a weekly basis.

Q: You've watched a lot of young actors get their start on Neighbours. Why do you think it continues to be such a fertile training ground?

A: We like to give people a go and we're a very supportive cast and crew. We truly want the best for each other so we're always helping one another out.

In terms of a training ground, you don't get that number of scripts going through your hands anywhere else in the world. I think within one year it works out to be about five feature films worth of dialogue per person.

Q: What are your biggest highlights of playing Toadie over the years?

A: The wrestling storyline, because it's every child's dream to be a professional wrestler. And marrying Sonya because Eve (Morey) is just so awesome to work with. The house of trouser days were also a lot of fun. We would just run amuck and tried to talk the director into whatever it was we wanted to do with a particular scene. And let's not forget the bikini shop!

Q: What are your hopes for him going forward on the show?

A: I'm hoping that Dr Karl (played by Alan Fletcher) can perform some kind of bionic surgery on Toadie and he becomes half human half robot in a bid to make him walk again.

Q: What have been some of your best or most interesting fan encounters over the years?

A: When Coldplay first came to Australia, I walked into one of their gigs and Chris Martin recognised me in the crowd. He said 'Oh my God! Are you Toadie from Neighbours?', and I said 'Ah yes'. Chris responded 'Oh my God! You rock! You're a legend. This next song is for you' and then they played Yellow. It was very, very cool.

Neighbours airs week days at 6.30pm on ELEVEN.
