AS SEBASTIANO Garofalo sat in the dock of the Rockhampton Magistrates Court wearing a blue jumpsuit, with his right arm bandaged, the family and friends of his alleged victims mourned.

The 33-year-old Rockhampton man appeared on two counts of inflicting grievous bodily harm after allegedly stabbing two men at the Ozcare Rockhampton Homeless Hostel for men on Tuesday morning.

The men, aged 32 and 33, received multiple stab wounds to their chest and abdomen and were transported to Rockhampton Base Hospital following the incident about 7am.

Witnesses said one of the men had managed to stagger about 50m down the road before collapsing from his injuries.

Garofalo was allegedly still carrying a knife when police arrived, which he surrendered without incident.

While Garofalo's 33-year-old alleged victim was still fighting for his life, Queensland Police yesterday confirmed the 32-year-old alleged victim, Aaron Flenady, died from his injuries in hospital on Tuesday night.

Friends yesterday expressed their disbelief at the death of Aaron, who grew up in Rockhampton and attended North Rockhampton State High School.

One friend shared a message of support on The Morning Bulletin's Facebook page.

"You will always remain my crazy friend that was always down for anything silly I wanted to do lol RIP buddy, such a stupid act of inhumanity, I still can't comprehend what had happened or why, xoxo," the friend said.

Despite Aaron's death, a Rockhampton Police Criminal Investigation Branch spokesperson could not confirm if Garofalo's charges would be upgraded.

"Investigations are continuing and no one has been charged with anything extra at this stage," the spokesperson said.

Garofalo was remanded in police custody and his case was adjourned to a committal call over on November 11.

The Morning Bulletin yesterday spoke to Ozcare about the alleged stabbing incident.

An Ozcare spokesperson said the homeless hostel had strict resident requirements that clients agree to in writing before they enter the hostel. Violence and discrimination were not tolerated and residents who were unruly or disrespectful towards staff or other clients may be asked to leave.

In addition, the spokesperson said residents were expected to pay the day charge or have an agreement with the co-ordinator, maintain a high level of personal hygiene, enter into a case management planning agreement and participate in relevant life skills programs that provide the skills to live independently, be actively looking for permanent accommodation, meet Centrelink obligations, abide by a conditions of stay agreement and not bring alcohol or drugs onto the hostel grounds, or be under the influence of them.

The Ozcare spokesperson confirmed the organisation was helping police with their investigation.

"I can confirm that an incident occurred yesterday morning and as a result one man has died in hospital," the spokesperson said.

"We are deeply saddened by what has happened and offer our condolences to the man's family.

"We are co-operating with police who are investigating the incident, and as it's a police matter I'm unable to provide any further information.

"The safety of our clients and staff is paramount, and these safety measures go above and beyond what is required by the Department of Housing and Works, who provide funding for the hostel."
