Man caught with 114 ecstasy pills in Nimbin

CAUGHT by Nimbin police with 114 ecstasy pills secreted beneath the driver's seat of his black BMW, Benjamin Nakia Hewson told the officers they were for his 'urinary tract infection'.

Hewson, a former Lismore resident now living on the Gold Coast, pleaded guilty in Lismore Local Court to possession of a prohibited drug at Nimbin on July 11, and supplying a prohibited drug - ecstasy.

Magistrate Robyn Denes committed Hewson to Lismore District Court on February 15 for sentence. He is also prohibited from visiting Nimbin.

In police documents before the court Hewson was spotted by police standing beside the door of the parked black BMW 323i at 4.50pm before walking away when he spotted the officers.

Police also stated Hewson was under suspicion after receiving information that he was involved in transporting drugs from Surfers Paradise to Nimbin.

When the pills were found inside resealable plastic bags Hewson, when asked what was inside, replied 'I think they're ecstasy'. Police uncovered 41 brown pills and 73 cream pills with an anchor logo.

A police statement revealed that when first asked by one Nimbin officer 'what are the tablets for Ben?' he replied, 'they are for my urinary tract infection'.

Police also allege Hewson was a regular visitor to Nimbin and the Nimbin Museum and regarded as a supplier of drugs, including amphetamines and ecstasy.

The unemployed man is in receipt of Centrelink benefits and was granted bail.
