Board meeting set to decide Arsenal boss's fate

ARSENE Wenger's future as Arsenal manager will be decided at a Gunners board meeting after the FA Cup final against Chelsea on May 27.

The Frenchman has avoided the question of his future for months but he made the revelation on Friday a press conference before his team's crunch home match against Everton on Sunday.

"The board meeting is after the FA Cup final. That is when things will be finalised," said Wenger, whose contract expires at the end of this season.

"I don't know what will happen at that board meeting.

"You have certainly to know that there are many aspects of a football club which have to be discussed at a board meeting.

"One of them is, of course, what is happening with the manager, the future, the players who have to come in, the renewal of contracts. You don't miss problems in a board meeting.

"Of course I will be there. At the moment I think we should focus on short term and what's going on on Sunday and in the Cup final.

"We are likely to get an announcement after that."

Wenger has been the target of a sustained, and at times global, protest campaign for his near-21-year reign to come to an end.

Arsenal are in real danger of missing out on qualifying for the Champions League for the first time under Wenger. The fifth-placed club needs a draw, or more likely a win, against the Toffees and hope that either Manchester City or Liverpool slip up in the final round of the season.

Arsenal's two stars players Mesut Ozil and Alkexis Sanchez could agitate for an exit from the Emirates if Arsenal fail to reach the Champions League.

Both players have only a year to run on their contracts and have been the subject of much speculation, but Wenger defended the commitment of both stars.

"Sanchez and Ozil, maybe one day I will be able to speak about that, but I don't question their effort and focus," Wenger said.

"They are part of the results as well, like I am.

"Overall, first of all they are under contract and secondly they behave like they want to be in the club.

"They don't behave like players who want to leave the club."
