The Bachelor: I'm head over heels in love

APPARENTLY reality dating shows can have happy endings, for some at least.

The Bachelor Sam Wood says he has fallen "head over heels" for one of the girls he met on the reality dating show, and he's tired of keeping it a secret.

"The girl I've ended up choosing is not only a great friend but I'm head over heels in love with," Wood told APN.

"It's just frustrating because I didn't realise the show would air so long after it was filmed. I thought it might be a few weeks, not four and a half months.

"I just can't wait for Thursday for us to be free."

The 35-year-old has kept the winner's identity a secret even from his own family, likening the experience to being in a witness protection program.

"We've had a few secret catch ups on weekends where and when it's been possible.  We have definitely become closer and closer every time we see each other.

"Our catch ups are like a witness protection program but it'll all be worth it."

Tonight's episode will see Wood go on dates with the three final "bachelorettes" - Lana Jeavons-Fellows, Sarah Mackay and Snezana Markoski - before choosing two women to take home to Tasmania to meet his family before his penultimate decision in tomorrow's grand final.

"They're all beautiful and really intelligent with great personalities," he said.

"They're all really warm, family-oriented people, which is something I find myself really attracted to.

"It definitely gets hard when you're getting down to the final three and two girls. The girls who are left are not only brilliant women but highly compatible with me for a number of different reasons."

Wood faced backlash on social media last week after he sent home viewer favourite Heather Maltman.

"I understand why people like Heather so much; she's a very likeable person. I could never see us being more than friends," he said.

"People are so emotionally engaged with this show. I had no idea it was so big."

The final two episodes of The Bachelor air tonight and tomorrow at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
